The following information has been provided with the intent to aid survival minded individuals in preparation for the possibility of surviving an asteroid or meteor strike.

How many people actually consider preparing for an impact to Earth from a celestial object? The answer may be surprising to most yet the reality of making preparations does not extend beyond saying goodbye to family and friends with the premise that it may not be a survivable event so .... what's the point. Humans have a survival instinct. Many people either fail to act on their instincts or they are unsure and simply fail to act or respond to important issues. As a result, ... many people simply roll with the punches allowing life to happen around them while calamities are not addressed or prepared for. Others just don't believe they will be effected by such calamities and choose to meander about the planet with over confidence. An asteroid or meteor strike is typically represented in cinematic films as an UN-survivable event which discourages most people from trying. Survival minded people take in consideration that events like these are subject to variations that offer a chance to live if preparations are made correctly. Variations such as the size of the object and locations of impact are elements to be considered. Without appropriate knowledge the inner will to survive becomes diminished and unresponsive to prepare for any calamity. The aim is to gain that knowledge which is conducive for surviving anticipated events and then act on what we have learned in hopes of increasing the odds to survive. Asteroids, meteors and other debris hitting the Earth has happened in the past and so shall it happen again in the future. Events are cyclic and re-occurring. Values of impact and severity are contingent upon the variations. Survival "IS" possible.

Advantageous preparations for a celestial impact to Earth may include the following.

 .

.

Enhanced observations

To be aware of conditions impacting our environment and surroundings is simply smarter, ...especially when it presents a threat of great magnitude. Gaining knowledge in such matters involves a little research and observation. There are many ways to accomplish this task. Staying in tune with local and federal sources of communication can offer a great deal of advantages. Exposing ourselves to secular avenues of news and information, ... even if they represent a degree of conspiracies, adds to our knowledge base. Believe it or not more truths are revealed through many of these underground sources than one might be aware of. The more information we have available to us the better decisions we can make for saving lives. Sift through the rhetoric and decipher truths when possible. Having equipment to assist with observations is a bonus when seeking sensitive information detrimental to surviving any calamity, ....such as an impending impact from an asteroid or meteor. Equipment such as scanners and short wave radios, ... which have been modified or "Peaked & Tweaked" as they say, ... offer a huge advantage as well. This type of news and information may not be seen or heard on primary main stream media sources so it is important to seek it our ourselves. Discretionary limitations when releasing unfortunate news is often standard operating procedure with the intent to prevent unwanted reactions from citizens. Administrations do not want a mass exodus or panic resulting in social chaos and upheaval which can often be much worse than the event itself. As a practice, ... the aim for an administration is to maintain order and prevent chaos. Regulation of mainstream media does and will occur when it benefits those policies. Staying apprised and informed of potentials around us can certainly aid in survival. What we do with that information is just as important. This is our early warning system. To have life threatening information ahead of the masses can prove to be advantageous when making decisions for survival. Being informed and alert to military troop and civil service movements is also a key to staying ahead of the chaos. It sure doesn't hurt to know someone who has access to special information which may be conducive for survival. Joining an astronomy club may prove to be a huge advantage when the desire is to monitor movement of celestial objects. Observation and knowledge is an important factor for surviving such events.

.

Determine vulnerability

Knowing the region of impact and how far away we must be from the point of impact is vital information necessary for surviving such an event. Simply stated, ... getting as far away from the path of projected impact is a smart move. The closer we are to that point of impact, (ground zero), the more vulnerable we are to suffering the effects from it. Determining vulnerability includes performing a risk assessment of supplies and resources with the aim of providing sustenance, shelter and defense capabilities for longer duration's of time. Despite the severity or value associated with an impact this will most likely become a global event so plan accordingly. We will all be effected one way or another.

.

Shelters and bunkers

Shelters and bunkers should be established as part of a back up plan when relocating or bugging out is not possible. As depicted in many illustrations and recreations an impact from an asteroid or meteor can product a phenomenal shock wave across a region of land as well as produce tidal waves said to reach as high as a mile or more and move at speeds greater than 500 miles per hour. The purpose of a shelter or bunker during such an event should withstand shock and tidal waves accordingly. It is expected that flood waters will recede after such an event so sheltering may need to be useful for that estimated duration of time. Since an asteroid or meteor can cause devastating tidal waves a shelter should have the capability to be sealed completely. These types of shelters require air scrubbers and perhaps a source of breathable oxygen on hand. Often a tougher resource to acquire but certainly not impossible. Shelters should have ample air, drinking water, food and supplies conducive for survival. Plan for the needs of pets as well.

.

Have a bug out plan

If time permits and the urgency to get out of the area is of high importance than having a bug out plan is imperative. Since no two asteroids or meteors are the same the results from an impact consists of many variables. Speed, angle of attack and density of the object are expected to play an important role in the effects of such an event. Since it is difficult to definitively know those factors without inside information than we are left to planning for a geographical location of impact. Living near large bodies of water and coastal regions may not be a fantastic idea. Hard rocky locations may present a degree of heavier shock value which should be considered Mountain ranges comprised of shale and boulders may present a higher degree of risk. Many prepper type survivalists believe remote locations at a higher altitude may prove to have more advantages but some where away from falling rock is more desirable. Having NO ground beneith our feet has also been considered a potentially good idea. Some extreme survivalists have plans to utilize methods of flight such as a hot air balloon or aircraft to escape the initial impact. Others believe seeking refuge in caverns or caves is suitable for surviving such an event. In any case it is always important to have enough supplies for a longer duration of time as this type of event may have repercussions for years despite where we plan on running to. Bugging out of densely populated regions has it's own share of difficulties which should be considered. Avoid using  public transportation for escaping. Once again, ... staying informed can provide a jump start ahead of the chaos when choosing to bug out.

.

Food, water and supplies

Most survival minded preppers have a degree of food, water, ammo, fuel and other items known to be useful during and after disastrous events. It is to be expected that resources and their suppliers will no longer be available for sales or distribution. Results from a celestial impact can certainly vary and for the most part should be considered detrimental to the chain of food, water and all other resources. It is also important to accept that civil and military organizations will gather up most all available resources for safe guarding and distribution if they decide to do so. Having items of trade or other valuable sources of currency will aid in bargaining for the supplies needed as well as provide a functional relationship with others who possess additional resources to be bargained with. Food can be grown even in the most harshest environments with the appropriate knowledge. Water can also be located and extracted with additional knowledge and training. Resources are available all around us.

.

Contamination, infectious conditions, poor air  & water quality

Medical needs and infection control measures is often overlooked but should be considered as a high priority. It is expected that physical and environmental conditions may become difficult and uncomfortable to live with. Water and air will most likely become contaminated in many regions. It will be an additional advantage to carry breathing apparatuses, masks etc. as well as considering filtration media or systems to scrub the air and water sources. Having a supply of medical care equipment and perhaps antibiotics is something that many survival minded people practice. Many preppers obtain antibiotics from their local pet store. Amoxicillin, penicillin etc. can be procured for fish and pets but has been known to be useful to humans as well. Building a distillation device can provide opportunities to make alcohol for disinfecting wounds etc. A good medical supply may make the difference between living or perishing. Cleanliness is a huge factor of survival.

.

Learn new tricks

Education in survival techniques can assist with longer duration's of displacement. Becoming self reliant aids in survival. Relying on governmental organizations adds to the vulnerability to being susceptible to unfortunate circumstances which may be out of our control. Learning to grow food, fish and hunt and trap presents a huge advantage when survival is on the line. Leadership skills coupled with a keen sense of morality will provide a better chance for surviving this type of calamity.

.

Proper defense may be required

A good plan is a culmination of consideration given to overcoming vulnerabilities associated with surviving any calamity or global event. A good plan also contains what many consider to be an uncomfortable topic. Defense and physical protective measures. Bottom line here is to adopt and implement tactical advantages & training with a strong survival like mentality. Be cautious of other who will remain in a defensive posture. They will most likely defend thier well being with they have. Think twice when considering using force to steal the resources needed. Humans have a bad habit of turning barbaric when society come UN-glued and chaotic.

.

Note

Measures of preparation may be less effective when residing in areas near ground zero, ... non the less should provide a degree of comfort with the understanding that an attempt is being exercised in the name of survival. Our family and perhaps even friends may be relying on our knowledge and efforts.
